Barney Gargles in Selkirk

This is in my top five Dessert Destinations. Their cheesecakes are heavenly. They're always creamy and the selection is top notch. It's also necessary to grab a huge slice of the Peanut Butter Marshmallow square to go when we stop in :)

The waitress was unfriendly and inattentive. There was a long wait for the food, and most of it wasn't good. The fries tasted like the oil hadn't been changed in a while, the gravy was gritty brown pudding, and the roasted potatoes had no seasoning whatsoever. Everything else was mediocre at best.

Excellent service great food.we had the special of the day. Lasagna .super size portion was devine really tasty. Best I've ever had!

The staff were so friendly and inviting, clean restaurant, and delicious food! The only thing that was not so good was the long wait for the food. It was at least half an hour to forty minutes (maybe longer) before we got our food served. The food order was not even that fancy, just a plate of burger and fries, and the other plate fish and fries. The restaurant was not even busy at the time. The fish was slightly burnt (almost to a black crisp) but didn't bother saying anything to the server as it was already long enough of a wait. Otherwise the food was very good. The dessert is always worth it! It's usually a better experience at this restaurant.

My wife and I drove out there from Winnipeg for a Sunday lunch. First time being there. Great visit. Service was good and prompt and friendly. The menu there seems to have everything on it. From perogies to salads to burger platters. Portion sizes were larger. I'm pretty sure you won't leave hungry. Parking is available in the rear of the building. Looking forward to going back for some more of that cherry cheese cake!

Even though it is not the most accessible for toddlers and kids, the server's try thier best to accommodate your family. No change table btw. But regarding the food and service, it's pretty darn good.

The breakfast special (M-F $5.95, S&S $6.95) was very good, I'm 220 lbs, and I wasn't sure if it would be enough, but it was the perfect amount of food!! Great taste, great atmosphere, and prompt friendly service.

Their cheese cake amazing, large meal portions great chili burger. Greek salad needed more dressing but they were quick to resolve. Sorry no burger pictures as it was to good to put down.

Fantastic breakfast special during the week. Bacon, eggs, toast and hash browns for $5.99. Very pleasant, quaint decor. Hard to beat this place.

Wasn't great for supper on a Wednesday night, service was efficient and friendly. Fish and chips (my go-to at this Restraunt) not as good as in the past - but I was able to eat it. My wife had Chicken Fingers and they were awful. The chips were very heavy and had an odd texture.

The desserts alone are worth the visit, but the Irish style fish and chips are as good as they ever were.

Food was not great. The bun for the chicken club was stale and dry, the fries were soft and soggy and tasted like old grease. The worst part was the service. We came at 1130am, it was not busy. We were seated next to a manager doing paperwork and that didn't even make the service better! We asked for a highchair for my youngest and didn't get one, our drink orders were not taken right away, and then they were wrong. Nobody came to check on us at any time. Had to find another waitress to get drink refills. Then had to track our waitress down to pay our bill. Not a great experience at all...

Pies use to be fabulous, tender flaky crust, just the right sweet and fair sized.NOW dinky slices, overly sweet and the crust is horrible hard cardboard!!

First off, the fries are really good. The burger was quite good although its house-made sauce was just weird. I don't know what the steak was supposed to be, but it was not good. Maybe some food service's offering to shave a few pennies of cost? Vegetables were a disgrace, in a word. I don't see a return in our future.

Ok breakfast. Toast was burnt. I mentioned it. Was told that's how that bread toasts. ?? Marble rye. Brought me new toast...now barely toasted soggy with butter.

We had the fish and chips. The fish was barely cooked, not hot at all. The chips (fries) were both soggy and old tasting. Found a fish spine in my order. Not what I would expect from a restaurant. The iced tea was good and the service was fine so they get two stars but we were really disappointed in the food.

This is the place to go if you want to eat out, but you still want a home-cooked meal! I loved our meal at this place, as well as the warm, casual, and comfortable atmosphere. It's only 20 minutes north of the Wpg perimeter and Main Street, so it's not far to go, and it's worth it. Prices are extremely reasonable, but portions are really generous. All of the food that we ordered looked and tasted well-prepared. The fish and chips I had were delicious! We'll be back, and next time we'll try to leave room for one of the amazing looking desserts that are on their menu!

I have been coming here for dessert with friends for over 20 years now... The best cheesecakes and pies I have ever had and so affordable!

It sure has gone downhill in the last few years my husband ordered a clubhouse sandwich platter they served him it with the toast burnt black when he returned it they served him with the top slice of bread cut in the wrong direction so the sandwich was hard to eat. Portion sizes have dropped to half the size they were aa year ago. Disappointing will not go back no quality of food or service a 1 rating is too high

Really cool atmosphere and excellent food and service!! Definitely recommend going here. The turtle cheesecake is delicious!!

It is an okay busy small town restaurant. Have amazing desserts. Waitresses were very helpful. A nice parking lot out back. Food was good but nothing gourmet

The mushrooms weren't appetizing in appearance, but I always enjoy the ceasar salad. The steak was... plain. No sauce offered, but I was very hungry so dipped in hubby's gravy. They didn't have the onion rings for his burger but didn't offer anything or a discount.

Ordered a quesadilla on a busy Friday night and it was just terrible. It was so soggy it seemed like they didn't grill it at all.

Delicious food. Lots of odd and rare things all over the restaurant to see. Only really bad thing is washrooms are downstairs. Would eat there again.

The food is very good. We've tried 3 dishes on the menu- burgers, fish and chips, chicken souvlaki. All were tasty and obviously home cooked. The server was attentive and efficient. Overall, I highly recommend for a neighborhood spot.

It was pretty good. We haven't been there in awhile. Not too much has changed. We both had the 2-piece fish and chips. Fish was good, not at all greasy. The chips came to the table piping hot, but cooled quickly. They were still good, though. The server was friendly.

Always great food and great service, nice quiet restaurant great for a date or with the family. The desserts are our favorite, one of the main reasons we keep coming back. Highly recommend trying this place out if you're looking for something new to try.

Good Home Cooked Food. Accommodating service.

Not very good at all, my wife and I tried it this past Saturday it was terrible. The coleslaw was boring and dry had no flavor, nothing. The French fries were underdone and my Reuben was horrible and very plain and dry as well. My wife had the shrimp meal and it was super crunchy. Both not impressed at all, lost alot since the days of Judy and Shirley, I am sorry to say. We use to love it but not anymore. And we're usually not that hard to please.

Been here many times. Aways great food, I've never had a bad experience. The staff is very friendly and are always joking around with our young kids, making them laugh. We never leave without a piece of their delicious homemade cheesecake! I highly recommend this restaurant.
